Cantero Palace

The Municipal Museum of Trinidad is popularly known as Palacio Cantero, for being located here. It is a building totally alien to tradition where the most cosmopolitan tastes of the 19th century are reflected. It was inaugurated as a museum in 1980. There you can learn about the history of Trinidad since its foundation, passing through the slave trade, the splendor of the sugar industry, the struggles for independence or the crisis in the sugar sector, through documents, works of art and other objects. One of the greatest attractions of the Municipal Museum of Trinidad is the magnificent views of the city that it offers from its tower. 💡Curiosities The Palace has an interesting history, it first belonged to the Borrell family, until the building passed into the hands of the German Kanter or doctor Justo Cantero, who acquired large sugar plantations after poisoning a slave trader and marrying his widow, who he also died prematurely. Kanter's riches are on display in all rooms decorated in neoclassical style. 🗺 How to get there? It is located right in the center of the town next to the Plaza Mayor. 📍Surrounding area In the surroundings you can visit the Plaza Mayor, the San Francisco Asís Convent, the Romantic Museum or the Ortiz Palace among others.
